Dozens of state nonprofits have received grants provided under the auspices of Connecticut’s Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program.

Among contributors to the program is AVANGRID, and its subsidiaries, United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas, which have distributed more than $417,000 in grants aimed at helping community and neighborhood organizations improve energy efficiency and save on energy costs, the company said in a press release.

The three AVANGRID subsidiaries recently presented grants to 56 nonprofits at a ceremony at the Energize Connecticut Center.

The awards, ranging from $3,000 to nearly $14,000, were provided under the auspices of the state’s Neighborhood Assistance Act tax credit program, which provides a corporate tax credit to encourage businesses to provide financial support to qualified local nonprofits.

“For our nonprofit partners in Connecticut, we know every dollar saved on energy is a dollar that can instead be spent on programs and services in the community, whether they’re training guide dogs for the blind or providing emergency shelter services for women,” said Anthony Marone III, president and CEO of Connecticut operations for Avangrid Networks, in the release.

“By supporting projects to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy costs, we help our partners achieve ongoing savings so they can devote more resources to their mission,” Marone said in the release.

Since 2010, the Connecticut AVANGRID companies have awarded more than $2.9 million in grants through the state’s tax credit program, the release said.
