Experts to Make a Case Why Energy-Efficient Building Makes Sound Financial Sense for Developers on “Greenwich Matters” Radio Program

Executive Director of High-Performance Building District and Key Market Influencer Join Sustainability Advocate Mark Betz and Sam Romeo on WGCH 1490 Thurs., Dec.15 at 6:00pm

Greenwich, CT December 13, 2016  - Numerous studies over the years as well as those done more recently demonstrate a 10% increase in occupant productivity by improving indoor air quality (IAQ). This is particularly significant since about 90% of the costs incurred over the 30-year life of a building are employee-related. Taking this simple step enables commercial real estate developers to achieve genuine bottom-line growth by increasing Net Operating Income while also directly building the cap rate which adds to property value.

Whether the property is owner-or tenant-occupied, the financial benefits realized can be exceptional. When space is leased, improved indoor air quality creates a significant attraction and marketing advantage. This applies to both office and multifamily buildings, meeting the growing concerns of renters determined to protect the health of their children.

The nuts and bolts of how to achieve these results have evolved in the world of design and construction into a process called collaborative integrated design, which is led by experienced project management to produce performance-driven outcomes. This updated approach replaces the traditional design-bid-build model that often proves to be more adversarial, expensive and time-consuming.

To expedite progress in this area, public-private partnerships have been developing in cities across North America as part of the 2030 District movement to provide a business model for urban sustainability through collaboration, leveraged financing, and shared resources. The Stamford 2030 District was launched in 2014 as a partnership between the Business Council of Fairfield County and Connecticut Fund for the Environment.

Megan Saunders, Executive Director of the Stamford 2030 District and Steven Hall, founder of the Greenwich-based project management firm, Chandler llc, will join Mark Betz, founder and CEO of the Norwalk firm, GreenView Building Products, along with GreenView’s  Sales Director  Rob Kennedy, and Sam Romeo, chairman of the Greenwich Housing Authority on the Greenwich Matters Radio Program on WGCH 1490. Saunders earned a Master of City and Regional Planning from the Bloustein School at Rutgers University, Prior to assuming her current position, she led project design and construction teams at Vidaris, Inc. to implement sustainable environmental practices and achieve LEED ratings. Hall is recognized as one of the top 500 worldwide influencers active on Twitter promoting high performance buildings.

The live broadcast, entitled “The Clear Value Case for Building Energy Efficiency,” can be heard at 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 15th. Visit www.greenviewbuildingproducts.com and click on the WGCH logo.

The interview is the latest in a biweekly series of proven strategies and in-depth examinations of the economic and social benefits of building with an eye on its long-term effects on the environment.  “Efficient resource use and improved building performance are now crucial to the economic health of both developers and the community as a whole,” said Betz. “We want to highlight the broad array of resources, tools and opportunities that the District makes available to improve and add value to these assets.”
