New City Sustainability Director to Discuss Ithaca Green New Deal
Luis Aguirre-Torres, the City of Ithaca sustainability director, will discuss how he sees the Ithaca Green New Deal unfolding over the next several months at our upcoming quarterly meeting on Wednesday, June 16 at 4:30 pm.
Luis Aguirre-Torres stepped into his new role as the City of Ithaca sustainability director in March and has moved quickly to generate a sense of fresh momentum for the Ithaca Green New Deal. Before taking on job pf leading the IGND, Luis garnered more than 15 years of domestic and international experience working with government, non-profit, and business sectors in green technology, policymaking, emissions reduction, and green entrepreneurship. He received two commendations from President Barack Obama for his work in Latin American and sustainable innovation, and he served as White House Fellow in 2016 focusing on climate change.
Luis will outline his vision of the Ithaca Green New Deal and strategy for achieving the ambitious goals it sets out. He'll also address the important role that commercial property owners and the Ithaca 2030 District can play in achieving these goals.
