"1000 Conversations" Will be Focus of District Partners Meeting on September 20

City Sustainability Director Will Also Outline New Building Electrification Initiative

City of Ithaca Sustainability Director Luis Aguirre-Torres has launched an exciting new undertaking, "1000 Conversations About Our Future," to provide a vehicle for the community to engage in discussions about the Ithaca Green New Deal and the climate crisis, which has accelerated this summer with a series of extreme weather events that have inflicted widespread damage in the United States and the rest of the world.

This latest initiative will be the featured topic at the next quarterly District Partners meeting.

The idea is to hold these conversations, both formal and informal, over the next year to develop a collective view of our future. As the announcement introducing "1000 Conversations" puts it, the goal is "to see the world through each other's eyes so we can understand what matters to each one of us, and through that, what matters most to our entire community."

Luis will explain how District Partners and supporters can get involved in these conversations and why it is important that they participate.

He will also provide an overview of the building electrification program under development that will provide commercial and residential property owners with affordable financing to make their buildings and homes more energy efficient and reduce their carbon footprint. The program was highlighted in a recent article in the Guardian that has received national attention.
